Adoption Week & Botany/Zoology Club inaugurated on 12/11/2017
Animal Adoption Week”programme and the inauguration of “Botany and Zoological Club” has been organised on 12/11/2017 at 4.00 PM. At “Vanyaranga” (Amphitheatre) Zoo premises, as a part of activities taken up on its 125th year celebrations. His Highness Maharaja of Mysuru Sri Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wodeyaris inaugurated the programme and also interacted with the animal adopters. The programme was presided by Smt Mallige Veeresh, Chairperson, Zoo Authority of Karnataka, Mysuru. The nominated Directors of Zoo Authority of Karnataka Sri B.N.Karigowda, Sri K.Tukaram, Sri S.N.Raju, Sri Amjad Khan, Smt Latha Jagadish and Dr. T.Shivandappa, C.S.I.R., Emeritus Scientist, Professor, Department of Zoology, University of Mysuru, Sri B.P.Ravi, IFS. Addl. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Member Secretary, Zoo Authority of Karnataka, Mysuru were also participated in the occasion as chief guests.
Programmes of Mysuru Zoo conducted on the occasion of its 125th year celebration
Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, popularly known as Mysuru Zoo, was established by the 23rd Maharaja of Mysore Sri Chamarajendra Wadiyar Bahadur in 1892. Reckoned to be one of the best Zoos in Asia, the zoo has become a model for other zoos for its programme of wildlife conservation, environmental education and exemplary animal welfare measures. Zoo also contributes towards the management of protected forest besides playing an important role in the rescue and rehabilitation of wild animals. Being a tourist friendly destination, the Zoo has successfully engaged visitors, making them sensitive and responsible towards wildlife conservation. This historical zoo is celebrating its 125th year celebration during the year 2017 by conducting following programmes throughout the year.
On 10th August 2017 the following programmes were organized:
1) In commemorate of 125th year celebration of this historical zoo, the memorial monument was unveiled by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Sri Siddaramaiah.
2) Inauguration of Amphitheater (Vanya Ranga) Building: Main object of construction of Amphitheater is to conduct education programmes for the students. This theater is also opened dais for the publics for conducting workshops, debates etc. in connection with water & environment conservation as well as animal & man conflict issues to create awareness. This amphitheater was inaugurated on the afternoon of 10th August, 2017 by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Sri Siddaramaiah.
3) Release of Special Postal Covers & My Stamp: Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, Mysuru, has purchased 5000 Nos. of Special Covers & 120 sheets of My Stamp by making payment of Rs.78,840/- through Indian Postal Department to commemorate 125th year celebration. These Special Covers & My Stamps were released on the afternoon of 10th August, 2017 by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Sri Siddaramaiah.
4) Release of documentary film of Mysuru Zoo in CD: The object of making documentary film in the form of C.D. both in Kannada & English language is to give information about the history of Mysuru Zoo as well as wildlife to the zoo visitors of India & abroad. This CD was released on the afternoon of 10th August, 2017 by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Sri Siddaramaiah.
Arrival Of Animals from Arignar Anna Zoological Park Chennai To Mysuru Zoo
Mysuru Zoo is happy to announce that 2 female Sambars 2:4 Rhesus Macaque and 1:1 Reticulated Paython arrived on 02/03/2017. The exchange programme was executed in order to introduce the new blood line and to replenish the existing animal stock in Mysuru Zoo. In exchange of these animals, Mysuru Zoo spared 2:3 Nilgai, 0:2 Silver Pheasant and 1:1 Common Ring Necked Pheasant. All the animals are exhibited for visitors.
